Group 3 - Learn to Compete

For Ages 9 to 13 years

 

Group 3 is intended for skaters wanting to train in the speed skating discipline. Group 3 participates in both Short Track and Long Track speed skating throughout the season (September to end of March). The Group consists of skaters graduating from Group 2 as well as age-appropriate skaters from other disciplines, competent on skates and wanting to give speed skating a try. Off-ice dryland before or after practices are a regular part of this group and participation is strongly encouraged.

 

Short Track:

Tuesday 4:25-5:30pm, Thursday 7:15-8:20pm,  Saturday 7:25am – 8:20am  

Long Track:

The long track season for Group 3 will start in December weather permitting. Long track is at the Clarence Downey Oval, 1201 Dudley Street, Saskatoon and is an outdoor natural ice surface. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6:30-7:30pm.

Equipment: All Group 3 skaters will use speed skates; these can be rented from the club or purchase privately. Skate rental pick-up is at the end of August annually. Please review the equipment list carefully: Equipment Requirements. Long Track skates are recommended for second year and T2T skaters and need to be purchased.
